Nancy Drew 101

Until recently, I had never imagined myself actually making a blog. I had given it thought two or three years ago but quickly dismissed the scary notion because I honestly didn’t know where to start. “How do I make a blog worth reading” and “What the heck would I write about” would run through my mind. But, here I am writing my first blog post. I didn’t reconsider starting a blog until yesterday when I walked into my history class and all the girls said they loved my outfit and how I would be a great blogger because of my “cute wardrobe”. I pondered the thought and ended up creating Uptown Maven.

So why the name Uptown Maven?  Lets start hunting for clues, friends.

In class that same day we ended up talking about the Mexican Revolution; we started a new unit. Our first topic of discussion was why are we studying revolutions. Previously we had studied the French and American Revolution. My teacher brought up an interesting concept called The Law of the Few, which is the idea that a successful social epidemic starts and thrives on the involvement of other people with certain gifts. According to the author of The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell, there are three types of people. The connecters are people in the community that know many others. These people have a special gift of bringing the world together. Next, the salespeople are the greatest negotiators, they are able to convince people very easily without even trying. Lastly, the Mavens, are the information specialists. They are skilled at connecting everyone with new information.

CLUE 1: My history class, World Cultures and Contemporary Problems, is my absolute favorite class. Many discussions in WCCP have inspired me in different ways. My teacher has encouraged me to be resilient through anything in life, whether that means through happy times or times of sorrow and hardship. Of course, I also was inspired to make Uptown Maven.

Now, you have the reason for why I used the word Maven in my blog title, but why Uptown?

Readers, you’ll have to forgive me because I am new to the whole blogging thing. I do not have the “Blogging for Dummies” handbook, nor do I  think will I ever invest in it. I want to take the challenge by myself giving it all, or most, of my gumption. My goal is to write one post per week. I want it to be somewhat realistic in regard to my schedule.

If you don’t know me personally, I spend most of my time in a car. I live in the glorious  Temecula Valley which is about 60 miles north of San Diego. My school is all the way in San Diego. I started going to my private college preparatory school in 9th grade. I planned to finish high school like any other person, within four years however, that didn’t work out. I am not a terrible student  or a “bad kid” with behavioral issues. Last year I spent almost 8 months in the hospital which I’ll write about at a later time. I am in 10th grade for the second time this year.

CLUE 2: I live north of San Diego. Therefore I am uptown of San Diego.

So you guessed it lovelies, Uptown Maven was inspired by my location and thought-provoking history class. I hope to blog about my life, clothes and cooking. I believe that style is a way to say who you are without having to speak. I believe that cooking is just like writing, there are only so many flavors and ingredients yet its how you combine them that sets you apart. I hope to provide my readers with new information about trends in the fashion empire as well as new ideas for cooking, whether it be dinner for two Tuesday or family dinner Sundays.

Yours, Uptown Maven
